Why Sell to Reliable Gold
There's a difference between a gold buyer and a jeweler you can trust.

Reliable Gold has been serving Rhode Island families since 1934 — a fourth-generation family business whose reputation was built slowly and carefully, over decades. Our Wayland Square showroom is a comfortable, discreet location where there's no pressure and no rush. When you bring us your jewelry, you're working with experienced people who take the time to evaluate each piece thoughtfully and deal with you honestly.

A Name That Means Something

We have been your neighbors in Providence for over ninety years. When you come to us, you are working with people who are genuinely invested in this community and in earning the trust of everyone who comes through our door.

Handled With Care

Inherited jewelry, downsizing collections, pieces no longer worn — these often carry history, and we understand that. Our experienced jewelers evaluate fine jewelry, diamonds, and antique and signed pieces with care and respect.

A Comfortable, Familiar Place

Our Wayland Square showroom on Providence's Eastside is relaxed, comfortable, and discreet. We're happy to help you sort through what you have and give you honest feedback — no appointment necessary, though a private visit can always be arranged.

What We Purchase
Worn, unworn, broken, or simply forgotten — let us take a look.

Most people are surprised by what has value. A tangle of mismatched gold chains. A single earring. A diamond ring from a marriage that ended. An inherited brooch that's beautiful but not your style. Condition matters far less than you might expect — gold is gold, and a skilled eye sees past the tarnish.

If you're not sure whether what you have is worth bringing in, the answer is almost always yes. There's no obligation, and we'll give you our honest assessment either way.

"Jewelry sitting in a drawer brings no one any joy. Let us help give it new purpose."

How It Works
A straightforward process with no surprises at any step.

Our buying process is thoughtful by design. We take the time needed to evaluate each submission carefully and accurately — because a considered offer, arrived at properly, serves everyone better than a hasty one.

01

Bring In Your Items

Stop by Tuesday through Saturday during business hours — or contact us to arrange a drop-off appointment. Please allow ample time for your initial visit, especially if you're bringing a larger collection. We'll photograph and receipt your items so everything is documented from the start.

02

We Evaluate Carefully

We sort, test, and examine your pieces thoroughly — identifying metals, assessing stones, and working with a trusted buying partner whose specialized equipment allows for the most accurate evaluation possible.

03

A Clear, Fair Offer

Once we have a complete picture we'll reach out with an offer for the lot. Timing varies depending on the evaluation process, but typically falls within one to two weeks of drop-off. We'd rather take the time to get it right.

04

You Decide, No Pressure

Accept and come in to collect your check, or decline and pick up your items — no explanation needed either way. There's never any obligation, and we mean that.

Common Questions
Everything you might want to know before you come in.

Selling jewelry is unfamiliar territory for most people. These are the questions we hear most often — answered as clearly as we can.

Do I need an appointment?

No appointment is necessary — you're welcome to stop by Tuesday through Saturday during business hours. That said, we do appreciate a heads up when possible, as initial visits can take some time depending on what you're bringing in. Give us a call or send an email and we'll make sure we're ready for you.

How do I know I'll get a fair price?

We've been doing this since 1934 — our reputation is everything. Every offer is based on current spot prices for gold and prevailing market values for diamonds and estate pieces. Treating people fairly is something we take genuine pride in.

What will my jewelry actually be worth?

That depends on several factors — the metal content, the quality and type of any stones, the condition and style of the piece, and current market demand. It's worth understanding that resale pricing reflects what a wholesale buyer will pay for a pre-owned item, not what a comparable piece would cost new at retail. Gold content is evaluated against current spot market prices, which fluctuate daily — so timing can play a role as well.

What if my jewelry is broken or damaged?

Not a problem. Broken chains, bent settings, missing stones, single earrings — condition matters much less than people expect. Gold has inherent value regardless of its form, and diamonds don't lose value because a prong is worn.

What if I'm not sure what I have?

That's exactly what we're here for. Bring in the piece — or the whole box — and we'll do our best to guide you through the process. There's no obligation to sell.

Is there a minimum? Will you look at small items?

There's no minimum. A few mismatched gold pieces, a broken bracelet, a handful of old charms — all worth bringing in. Small items add up, and we'll make sure nothing gets overlooked.

Do you work with estate jewelry and inherited collections?

Yes — and it's something we approach with particular care. Settling an estate or sorting through a loved one's belongings is rarely just a financial transaction, and we understand that. We're experienced with collections of all sizes, from a single inherited piece to an entire lifetime of jewelry accumulated over decades. If you're in the Providence area and navigating this process, we're glad to help — at whatever pace feels right for you.

Should I sell, or have the piece redesigned instead?

That's a conversation we're glad to have honestly either way. Redesigning an inherited ring, resetting a stone into something more wearable, or reimagining a dated piece entirely — our experienced jeweler handles all of this with exceptional skill and care. If a piece has sentimental value or exceptional stones, it may deserve a second life rather than a sale. We'll give you our honest read either way — and if redesign is the right path, we'd love to be the ones to help you explore it.

We'd Love to Meet You
Curious what your jewelry might be worth?

There's no obligation to sell — just bring what you have and let's take a look together. We've been having this conversation with Providence families for over ninety years. We'd be glad to have it with you.
